Asbestos is an old Greek word which means inextinguishable / unquenchable.Asbestos is a natural occurring mineral which contains magnesium silicate / iron silicate.There are six types of Asbestos , we in the United Kingdom used 3 types, these are:

Serpentine fibres (Chrysotile) White Asbestos.
Amphibole fibres (Amosite) Brown Asbestos and (Crocidolite) Blue Asbestos
Asbestos has many great properties and is also a very versatile mineral and was used in over 3000 building products.

Properties of Asbestos
These include fireproof/fire resistance, thermal insulation, strength and durability.Asbestos in its heyday was known as the Magic Mineral / Miracle Mineral.Note it becomes a deadly mineral when it is disturbed or in bad condition and made airborne.
The Greeks, the Romans and the Egyptians were using Asbestos for thousands of years.We in the UK started to import Asbestos back in the 1870's. It was finally banned in the UK in 1999.The European community nations banned Asbestos in 2005.Asbestos is still manufactured and used by other third world countries.
